Date Conversation Starters to Get Her Talking

Recommended Date Conversation Starters ProductAs you might already know, I don’t really like the idea of memorizing a bunch of “date questions” because they sound really fake.  However, here are a few date conversation starters you can use to get things rolling.

The goal of the first date is really do screen a girl to see if she’s the kind of person you want to spend time with and take out on future dates.  To do this, you really need to take her somewhere that the two of you can have a real conversation.  That means no bowling.  Now movies.  No getting drinks at a loud bar.  Try things like coffee shops, walks in the park, or even sharing a meal.

Never Run Out of Things to Talk About on Your Next Date

When you’re out with her, try the following date conversation starters, but only use them if you run out of things to talk about.  You don’t want your conversation to consist of a bunch of desperate sounding out-of-left-field questions that jump all over the map.

Nearly every girl has some kind of art or craft sort of hobby that they do.  It might be knitting.  It might be painting.  It might be dance.  You can ask her about this.  You might even try something clever like, “I have a feeling about you… you seem like an artistic person.  Do you do anything creative?”  From there just ask her things like “Was that hard to learn?” “What inspires you when you do that?” or something similar.  This is a great way to start things off.

Also, most girls that have finished college have traveled to Europe at some point.  Maybe she studied abroad in Paris.  Maybe she backpacked through Cinqua Terra on spring break.  Even if she hasn’t been to Europe, she probably fantasizes about going there.  Have you been to Europe?  If so, this is one of my favorite date conversation starters.  The two of you can literally spend hours sharing stories about some crazy hostel you stayed in or that time you lost all your luggage.  If you haven’t been to Europe, then you can talk about other travels you’ve been on or just paint all sorts of pictures in her imagination about all the places you want to visit some day.

Whenever I meet someone for a date, I always bring a book.  I tend to show up early and I like to have something to do while I’m waiting.  Books are a good conversation topic as well.  Most people read a few books a year and chances are good that she has turned a few pages recently.  Be careful though.  This is a date, not a book club meeting.  Don’t spend too much time intellectualizing things.  Keep it personal.  Explain how you would feel if you were in the same situation as one of the characters, or how you think it would be really cool to live the time period or location that the book takes place.

Again, these date conversation starters should be used to get the ball rolling.  Let things flow naturally and don’t interject all kinds of random stupid “date questions” into the conversation.  When you let these things flow naturally you give the two of you a chance to actually connect on something.  If you just ask a bunch of canned “date questions” you’re just killing time out of nervousness.
